Barbara B. Chapman, age 80 of Paris passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Paris Healthcare Center. She was a graduate of Rockford East High School and Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopalian Church in Paris.
Barbara began her career as a Reporter and Medical Writer for Rockford Newspapers, Inc. Following that, she was a Reporter and Medical Director for the Department of Community Services for Rockford Memorial Hospital, Assistant Director of Public Relations for the American Medical Association, Science Writer and Manager of Public Relations for the College of American Pathologists and also the Media Director for Exploited Children.
Barbara also authored the book "That Men Know So Little of Men" which was used as a textbook for Afro-American Studies at the University of Wisconsin.
After retirement she continued as Medical Writer for the College of American Pathologist's Monthly Magazine.
During her career, Barbara received over 75 awards for writing, reporting, and public relations projects and was a member of numerous professional organizations.
Barbara was born on May 17, 1929 to the late Vernon and Mildred (Bertch) Biggs in Rockford, Illinois. She married Chester V. Chapman in 1948 who preceded her in death.
Barbara is survived by one son David (Marsha) Chapman of Lafayette, Indiana, one brother John (Rachael) Raymer of Shingleton, Michigan, one sister Beverly Berl of Paris, Illinois, nephews Seth (Linda) Berl of Moultrie, Georgia and Michael (Kelly) Berl of Champaign, Illinois, Alan Raymer of Rockford, Illinois, Brett Raymer and Steven Raymer of Seattle, Washington and several great nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother Richard Raymer.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois.
According to her wishes her body was donated for scientific study. Memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.
