Wilma Altergott Voelz's Obituary

Wilhelmina "Wilma" Altergott Voelz, age 89, of Paris, passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021 in Paris Healthcare Center in Paris, Illinois.

A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Paris, Illinois with a funeral service to follow. Burial will be in Hoult Cemetery in Chrisman, Illinois.

Wilma was born August 28, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the late Henry Christian and Emily Kufeldt Altergott. She married Lawrence Robert Voelz on January 24, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1999.

She worked in the accounting department of Kraft Foods in Chicago, Illinois, and later for Sears, also in Chicago until relocating to Paris. In Paris, Wilma worked at the Paris Community Hospital for 22 years until her retirement.

Wilma was involved with many clubs and organizations throughout her life. She was a member of Ladies Aid, a volunteer for Relay for Life, a member of St. John's children and adult choirs in Chicago, a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Prospect Heights, Illinois, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Paris, Illinois. Aside from her clubs and organizations, Wilma enjoyed many hobbies as well. She loved making beautiful crocheted doilies and giving them away as gifts, she enjoyed being outside in the spring and summer months tending to her flower gardens, baking delicious desserts, but most of all, she enjoyed socializing with her neighbors and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her beautiful smile will be missed.

She is survived by her children: Tina Lee (Gary) Morefield of Arrowsmith, Illinois, Lawrence Robert Voelz Jr. of Paris, Illinois, Erick Charles (Ilane) Voelz of Champaign, Illinois, Katherine Ann (Bradley) Ashmore of Savoy, Illinois, Edward George (Debra) Voelz of Muddy, Illinois; her 12 grandchildren; her 19 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

Wilma is preceded in death by her 2 brothers and 6 sisters.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Paris, Illinois, or Paris Community Hospital "Horizon Health", or Paris Healthcare Center.

Wilma's family would like to take this time to offer their sincerest thank you and gratitude to Wilma's "second family", the staff at Paris Healthcare, for taking such loving care of their mother.
