Hopper, Sr.
January 5, 1932 – June 13, 2016
William Edward "Bill" Hopper, Sr. age 84 of Paris, IL passed away at 6:45 a.m., Monday June 13, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. After many years of service with General Telephone Company, Bill was known as the telephone man, retiring from General Telephone Co. He was owner of Hopper's Restaurant with his wife "Sis" and Hoppers Tree Service.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Zimmerman as celebrant. Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 211 and V.F.W. 3601.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Wake Prayer Services will be at 3:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to E.C.C.F., Inc. Do it! Fund.
Bill was born in Paris, January 5, 1932, the son of the late Bernard and Genevieve Butler Hopper.
He married Delores Mae "Sis" Nicholson Hopper on October 8, 1954 and she passed away April 12, 2001. He later married Rosemary "Rosie" Fitzgerald Sanqunetti Hopper in 2003 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Clinton, IN.
Bill served in the United States Marine Corp in the Korean War and the Illinois National Guard 1544 in Paris.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 211 and the V.F.W. 3601. Bill loved Karaoke and spending time with his family and traveling.
He is survived by his wife Rosie; his children: Debbie (Tom) Sinclair of Union, MO, Roger (Dawn) Hopper of Paris, Tammy Pine (Bill Reed) of Paris, Anita Gosnell (Rose McKamey) of Terre Haute, IN, Diana McKown (Paul Myers) of Paris; his grandchildren:Chad (Melissa Amanda Taylor) Lucas, Jami (Sabrina) Lucas, Tea (Jamie) Sarver, Rodney Hopper, Natalie (Daryll) Brossman, Jessica Hopper, Trista Kauffman (Phil Mulkins), Trent Kauffman, Doug Pine, Michelle (Stewart) Daniels, Jason (Wendy) Gosnell, Crystal Shea Reliford, John McKown, Jacob McKown, Paul Myers, Parker Myers, Paige Myers and Beth Nickerson; his sisters: Lois Rohl of Centralia, MO and Sharon Farley of Montague, CA; his 26 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his son Billy Hopper (Diana Missy Meharg); his siblings: Betty Collins, Trudy Burres, Bob Hopper, Ben Hopper and Marilyn Branch; and his sons-in-law Ron McKown and Danny Pine.
