Thelma M. Sturgeon, age 97 of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Paris Healthcare Center in Paris. She was retired from the ASCS Office in Paris where she was office manager. Following retirement she worked at Production Credit. She had been Director at the Bicentennial Art Center for 11 years. Ms. Sturgeon was a well-known Edgar County artist. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Bicentennial Art Center, Business and Professional Women's Club, BB Girls, and American Legion Post 211 Auxiliary. She was involved in writing the history of the LDS Church in Paris. Thelma taught classes at the Bicentennial Art Center and spent one week every month working at the LDS Temple in St. Louis until her health declined. Born May 3, 1920 in Brown County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Clark H. Sturgeon, Sr. and the late Margaret Sybil (Seass) Sturgeon. Survivors include her niece and nephews; Jackie (Jerry) Kraemer of Paris, Illinois, Michael (Sarah) Sturgeon of Anthem, Arizona, Skye Sturgeon of Seattle, Washington, Max Clark (Kathy) Sturgeon of Rhode Island, and Gregory (Vickie) Sturgeon of Jacksonville, Florida, and her great nieces and nephews; John (Lisa) Ramsey, Janna (Chris Cheesman) Ramsey, Jared (Elizabeth Koppler) Ramsey, Joseph (Mary) Kraemer, Jason Ramsey, and Jordan Ramsey, all of Paris, Illinois, Kirsten Kraemer of Terre Haute, Indiana, Jessica Ramsey, Josh Kraemer, and Jeff Kraemer, all of Paris, Illinois, Brittney Wood of Champaign, Illinois, Michaela Sturgeon of Seattle, Washington, Max Daniel (Agnies Cynkowska) of Austin, Texas, Christa Sturgeon, and Tricia (Chad) Senesac and Scott (Wendy) Sellars, both of Jacksonville, Florida. She also is survived by several great-great Nieces and Nephews, including her special angel, Zoie Rogers of Charleston, Illinois. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clark H. "Jack" Sturgeon and Max Sturgeon and two step-mothers Maude Lowery and Frances Sturgeon. Visitation for Ms. Sturgeon will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bicentennial Art Center or Edgar County Relay For Life.
