Sandra Jean
Hanner
November 17, 1950 – September 15, 2020
Sandra Jean Hanner passed away on September 15, 2020, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, Illinois, after a lengthy illness.
Cremation rites have been accorded and arrangements are being handled by Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home in Paris, Illinois. No services are scheduled at this time.
Sandy was born on November 17, 1950, in Charleston, Illinois, to Owen and Betty (Osborn) Stanfield. She married Lawrence D. Hanner on December 17, 1976, in Dwight, Illinois, and for more than 44 years was his "Toad."
Sandy graduated from Charleston High School in Charleston, Illinois, where she was, self-admittedly mind you, a "renowned baton twirler." After high school, she obtained Bachelor and Master's in Education degrees at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. She taught 3 rd grade and special reading at Crestwood School in Paris, Illinois, for 34 years, before retiring in 2013.
Despite her best efforts, Sandy was never able to drive her Chrysler 300 past a flea market, garage sale, or antique shop without stopping. She and Larry were avid collectors of history and spent many hours together searching for items to add to their various collections. Sandy watched NFL football, for the simple fact Larry liked watching the Chicago Bears. She enjoyed going to the Indianapolis 500, which she attended several times with friends. She and Larry traveled to numerous places in the United States, with their favorite trip being a cruise to Alaska.
Sandy's fun personality and bright eyes could light up a room, almost as much as the many pieces of jewelry that adorned her fingers, wrists, neck, and ears. She was always sharply dressed in color and theme-coordinated outfits and her flip-flop collection was to be envied. She had a youthful spirit that was extinguished much too soon, and she will be greatly missed.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband Larry of Athens, Illinois; one brother, Gary Stanfield (Teresa) of Effingham, Illinois; one niece; one nephew; two stepchildren; and three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Terry Stanfield; and her puppies Sugar and Buster.
