Ruth Ann Haught Costelic, of Paris, Illinois, died in the early morning hours, April 15, 2016 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman, Illinois, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 83 years of age. Ruth Ann was a lifelong resident of Edgar County. She graduated in 1950 from Paris High School. She was active in sales of various kinds including real estate, festivals, and other sales ventures. She was best known for 25 years as the "Cookie Lady" making beautiful cakes for special occasions, fudge, cookies and pies. For a short time, she operated "The Sweet Shoppe" on Andrew Street in Paris serving homemade sweet rolls, donuts, etc... Throughout her life, Ruth Ann loved dancing. She enjoyed square dancing, line dancing…even tap dancing for a time. She was an accomplished horsewoman, seamstress, and a prolific artist of acrylic landscape paintings. She also enjoyed roller skating for much of her adult life. Ruth Ann was born December 8, 1932 in Paris, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late John and Addie (Kidd) Haught. In 1951, she married Lloyd Burns who preceded her in death. Mrs. Costelic is survived by two daughters: Deborah Burns of Houston, Texas, and Diana Burns O'Banion of Danville, Illinois, two grandsons, Jason Chasten of Springfield, Illinois and Scott Trigalet of Danville, Illinois, two great-granddaughters, Allison and Taylor Trigalet of Danville, Illinois, her brother Reverend James Haught of Paris, Illinois, a nephew David Haught of Tennessee, and two nieces, Gloria (Haught) Thorne of Kansas and Joy (Haught) Oldfield of Florida. Visitation will be held from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with a memorial celebration to follow at 2:00 p.m.Thursday in the funeral home. The interment in Edgar Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Humane Society.
