Rosemary Blumthal, age 88 of Paris, passed away at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman. Rosemary Norinne O'Keefe was born March 28, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Viola (Rooney) O'Keefe. She married the late Walter John Blumthal (Doc) November 23, 1946 and he passed away May 2, 1988. Survivors include her eleven children; Bill and Linda Blumthal of Antioch, Illinois, Barbara Kendall of Paris, Illinois, Dr. Robert Blumthal of Paris, Illinois, John and Barbara Blumthal of Palm Harbor, Florida, Jim and Claudia Blumthal of Olney, Illinois, Cristy and Dave Bierman of Wheeler, Illinois, Jerry and Renee Blumthal of Paris, Illinois, Lisa and Mike Hawley of Geneva, Illinois, Thomas Rooney and Julie Blumthal of Murray, Kentucky, Amy and Ray Brubaker of Morton, Illinois, and Emily and Curtis Vaughn of Paris, Illinois, thirty-seven grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and a brother Thomas O'Keefe of Lombard, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her daughter Laurie deBoer and her brothers William (Bill) O'Keefe and Jerry O'Keefe. Rosemary was a remarkable woman whose family was everything. The joy of her life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister, was a regular participant in the Choir and the Guitar Mass Choir, and taught CCD classes. She was a former member and Regent of the St. Rosa Lima Court of St. Mary's Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was an active participant in Koinonia and Marriage Encounter. She also was a member of the Curillo Reunion Group since 1974. She was a homemaker and was the owner of a business, Miss Amelia's. She was the proud mother of 12 children. Visitation for Mrs. Blumthal will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Compassionate Food Pantry or St. Mary's Altar Society.
