Rose was born March 23, 1948 in Charleston, IL.  She was the first daughter of Robert Eugene Howard and Irene Mae Owen.

Rose married Don Salter on September 23, 1978 in rural Paris and he survives.  They were married just short of 44 years.  They raised their two daughters, Cindy (Bart) Gosnell of Manor, TX and Tami (Brian) O'Bannon of Paris in a loving home. She is also survived by two sisters, Linda Studey and Anna Curry, both of Clinton, IN and three sisters in law, Judy Jewell of Charleston, IL, Nancy (Steuart) Matlock of Benton, AR and Carol (Buster) Stuart of Little Rock, AR as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rose grew up with six brothers and sisters in rural Douglas and Edgar Counties.  She graduated from Newman High School in 1966.  Rose was the grandmother of Adam (Rebecca) Gosnell of Chicago, IL and Ryan Gosnell of Manor, TX and great grandmother of Jody Gosnell Caldwell of Stratford,  OK and Joseph, Violet, August and Benedict Gosnell of Chicago, IL.

Rose worked at the former Zenith plant in Paris.

Rose loved children of all abilities and ages.  She spent most of her career working as a Teachers Aide in District 95 and then various childcare centers, ending her career at Grace Lutheran Child Development Center.  She was affectionately known to a generation of children as "Miss Rose".

Rose was widely known for her infectious smile, laugh and kind heart, her love of children, being a good friend and for her generous spirit.  She was indeed a friend to the friendless, a kind soul to people in need and a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She will be missed and remembered forever.

Rose was preceded in death by her brothers Paul, Ronnie and Johnny Jewell as well as her sister Lois Anderson.

Memorial Contributions in her name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
