Rodger L. Plunkett Ii's Obituary

Rodger Lynn Plunkett II, 47 of West Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on February 13, 2020.  He grew up in Paris, Il.  Rodger was a veteran as well as a firefighter and paramedic.  He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Gregory Woolley.  Rodger is survived by his loving wife, Holly Plunkett, his children Savvannah Woolley, McKennah Plunkett, Gilliam Plunkett, Dustin Walden, Erika Ballard, Maci David, and Hudson David as well as his grandchildren, Isaak, Presley, Xavier, Quinn, and Oliver.  He is also survived by his parents, Rodger and Cathleen Plunkett, his sister and brother-in-law Annie and Richard Rinehart and many more family and friends who love him so much.

Rodger proudly served his country in the United States Navy and spent a portion of that time aboard the USS Carl Vinson.  His fondest memories were of his experiences in Hobart, Tasmania as well as Rota, Spain.  Rodger received fire training and served on the fire department at the Naval Base of Rota.

Rodger dedicated fifteen years to the Terre Haute Fire Department and was a proud member of the THFD Honor Guard.  He was very devoted to his job and would tell anyone how proud he was to be a part of an amazing department.  His pride for his job was well deserved as Rodger saved many lives and repeatedly risked his own to do so.  He sacrificed his holidays each year to allow other firefighters to be home with their families.

During his time as a firefighter, Rodger furthered his education with multiple achievements and obtained multiple awards.  He followed his sister, mother, and grandmother by pursuing a nursing degree and graduated summa cum laude from Ivy Tech Community College.  Rodger loved to bowl and was a member of the THFD's bowling league.  He enjoyed cooking and was known to create elaborate presentations for family dinners.  Rodger loved to attend concerts with his wife and was not ashamed to look like a "groupie".  He shared a love for the Chicago Cubs with his father and when he was unable to attend a game, he made sure to watch or listen to it wherever he was.

Rodger found joy in making others laugh and will continue to be loved and missed by many.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Rodger to Protect the Precious, Inc. at protecttheprecious.org .  A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.  For further information and online condolences, please visit www.stewartandcarrollfuneralhome.com .
