Richard "Dick" Pennington Henson, age 86 of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Paris Community Hospital. Mr. Henson was owner / operator of a Marathon service station and Henson Wrecker Service. He also was owner / operator of the Kurly Q Restaurant from 1975 until he eventually sold the business to a family member. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In the 1950's and 1960's he ran the Hangar and also the Dance Hall, arcade, concession stand, and swimming area at Twin Lakes in Paris, the local kids all loved him. Dick admired and respected Ernie Eveland, his High School Basketball coach, and was proud to be a member of the 1947 Illinois State Championship Basketball team. He enjoyed reminiscing about his years as a Paris Tiger and talking to anyone about Paris High School Basketball. Born September 21, 1930 in Paris, Illinois, he was the son of the late Nathaniel "Nate" and Mary Annetta "Nettie" (Pennington) Henson. He married Minnie (Smith) Henson October 5, 1974 in Valdosta, Georgia. Minnie passed away March 31, 2012. Survivors include three step-children; Adonna Bennett of Paris, Illinois, Leonard (Susie) Magers of Naples, Florida, and Will (Mary Ann) Magers of Paris, Illinois, a step-daughter-in-law Gloria Magers of Paris, Illinois, twelve grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Minnie, his son Stan Henson, a brother John Henson, and a step-son Russell C. Magers. Visitation for Mr. Henson will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Ronald Hilt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
