Philip G.
Homp
Sep 1, 1938 — Sep 8, 2026
Paris, Illinois
Philip Gerhardt Homp, of Paris, Illinois, passed away on September 8, 2026, in Paris. He was 88.
Born September 1, 1938, in Merrill, Wisconsin, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Toensing) Homp, and one sister.
Philp and Carolyn Toensing met singing in the choir at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were married there in 1963 and shared 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2021. They continued to sing in church choirs throughout their lives.
Philip served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959. He then built a 25-year career with IBM, working in Albuquerque, New Mexico; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Tucson, Arizona. After retirement, he served as a project manager for the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod's Laborers For Christ, helping lead building projects for churches and ministries across the United States.
Faith was the center of his life. He was active in worship, choir, and Bible study, and he served the church in nearly every role a congregation can ask of a layman - youth group leader, elder, congregation president, and everything in between.
He is survived by his sons: Philip Homp Jr. and his wife Merri of Lafayette, Colorado, and their children Marcus and Hope; Gerald Homp and his wife Michelle of Seward, Nebraska, and their children Nolan, Levi, and Callie (and her husband Roman); and Robert Homp of Hastings, Nebraska, and his children Robert Jr., Elizabeth (and her husband Carlos), and Daniel. He is also survived by two sisters and several nieces and nephews.
He was a dedicated family man and devoted husband, a proud Army veteran, and a longtime IBM employee. He traveled throughout the United States building churches and church buildings and was a lifelong student of the Word.
Funeral arrangements are pending at this time, Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family.
