Patrick Joseph (Pappy) Callahan, 83, went to be with our Lord on June 30, 2022, at 7:30pm, surrounded by his loving family and a compassionate staff at Horizon Heath Care in Paris, IL.
He was born February 24, 1939, to parents John (Joe) Callahan and Geneva (Talbott) Callahan, in Charleston, Illinois.
He was married to Maxine Turner, of Mattoon Illinois for 61 years, who survives.
Pat is survived by two daughters; Kelly Graham (Brian) of Paris, IL and Patsy Lewandowski (Phil) of Lafayette, IN.; five grandchildren, Cole Hutchings (Kelly) of Katy, TX, Meagan Longest (Josh) of Wolcott, IN, Jake Lewandowski of Lafayette, IN, Hillary Lewandowski of Lafayette, IN, and Elijah Wheeler of Paducah, KY, six great grandchildren; and sister, Mary Taylor (Dewey) of Charleston, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Ann Hartley, Herb Callahan, and Chris Sims.
Pat moved to Paris in 1961 when he married Maxine and started their family. He spent his career in Civil Engineering and loved what he did. As a devoted Catholic, Pat served his community through the Knights of Columbus. He rose to the level of 4 th Degree Knight, and also served as Grand Knight for a season. Pap was a man of few words but was a positive influence. Whether mentoring his girls, his grandchildren, or those he met on his path, his sage advice and "Pappy-isms" would leave you with a smile. Pappy will be greatly missed by all. We thank our Lord for blessing us with his life, stewardship, and example.
Graveside funeral arrangements are provided by Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Father Val of St. Mary's Parish will be officiating at St. Mary's Cemetery in Paris, IL on July 11 th at 11:00am. Reception will follow.
