Myra Jean King's Obituary

Myra Jean King, age 91 of Paris, Illinois passed away at 3:46 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Horizon Health Hospital in Paris, Illinois. Myra Jean was born December 27, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the first child of Ralph Dean and Iona "Brownie" (Brown) McPherson. She married Wayne Alva Estes on January 21, 1949 at West Salem Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon.  He passed away August 8, 1991.

They were the parents of two daughters, DeAnn (Dale) Cash of Paris, Illinois and Jana Ellen Rister of McLeansboro, Illinois and two sons, Richard (Marianne Schienle) Estes of Springfield, Illinois and Alan (Janet) Estes of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; all survive her. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Kathryn (Kevin) Forth, Thomas (Meggan) Cash, Jennifer Rister, Michael (Sylena) Cash, Seth (Tracy Cook) Estes, Jerrod Rister, Dr. Caleb (Dr. Robyn) Estes, and Emily Estes.  Also her great grandchildren; Brenden and Allison Cash, Tyler, Haylee, and Henry Rister, Kendall and Kale Forth, Christian Poore-Rister, Logan Estes, Brooks Estes, and Cora Cash, two sisters, Brownie Macko of Jacksonville, Illinois and Martha (Harry) Sims of Elkhart, Indiana, one brother Russell (Brenda) McPherson of Opdyke, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her first husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother Thomas Ralph McPherson, and daughters-in-law Jo and Karen King.

On September 21, 1996, Jean married David Harvey King of Sidney, Illinois at Countryside United Methodist Church in Urbana, Illinois. He passed away July 8, 2018 at home in Sidney.  She is survived by his three sons; Charles King of Berwyn, Illinois, Harold (Karen Giannini) King of Naperville, Illinois, and Ronald (Marty) King of Seymour, Indiana, his four grandchildren; David and Brian King, Kaydie (Marc) Balcitis, and Patrick (Courtney) King, and two great grandchildren.

Jean was a graduate of Mt. Vernon Township High School and graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science degree. She had worked as a typist, bookkeeper, customer representative, and executive secretary throughout the years at Magnolia Petroleum Company, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Davidson Chevrolet, Nelson Concrete Culvert Company, and GMAC.  She retired in 1994 after 16 years as an administrative assistant to the President and the Board of Trustees of Rend Lake College.  She had been a 4-H leader, Homemakers Association member, Business & Professional Women's Club board member and treasurer, and C.E. Brehn Memorial Library Board member. Currently, she was an active member of Countryside United Methodist Church and was a past member of Logan Street Baptist Church.  She had been a dairy farmer's wife in Dodds Township and early in her second marriage she assisted her husband in the operation of a small commercial apple orchard near Sidney, Illinois.

Visitation for Jean will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home in Paris, Illinois. Additional visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, also at Newell Funeral Home.  Burial will follow the service in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn, Illinois.  Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Countryside United Methodist Church 1807 County Road 1000N Urbana, Illinois 61802.  For further information and online condolences, please visit www.stewartandcarrollfuneralhome.com .
