Leo Michael (Mike) Waller, age 79, of Danville, Illinois passed away at 12:43 p.m. Thursday April 1, 2021 at the V.A. Liberty House in Danville, Illinois.
In keeping with State of Illinois mandates due to COVID-19 Pandemic, everyone attending the service must wear a mask while inside the funeral home. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. April 9, 2021 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with a rosary prayer starting at 9:30 a.m.. Everyone is welcome but we ask that you keep your visit short so that all who wish to pay their respects may do so. A mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 9 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Valery Burusu and Rev. Fr. Aloysius Okey Ndeanaefo officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
He was born December 5, 1941 in Paris, Illinois to the late Leo Jarome Waller and Anna Mary Gillivary Waller.
Mike spent his working days as a clerk for the V.A. hospital in Danville, Illinois. Additionally, Mike was also a member of the United States Army and Danville Legion Post 40. He was a member of the Holy Family Church in Danville, Illinois. Mike lived an amazing life and had many milestones to decorate it. At eighteen years old Mike graduated from Young America High School where he then made his way to Springfield, Illinois. In Springfield, Mike spent one year at the Latin School. After this chapter he then traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas to study Philosophy and Theology at St. Johns Seminary. Mike graduated in 1965 where he received his bachelor's degree. In 1967, Mike started basic training for the United States Army in Ft. Bliss, Texas. Afterwards, he moved to Ft. Jackson, South Carolina and then to the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1970, Mike moved to the Danville VA Center.
Mike is survived by his sister-in-law; Glenda Waller; and his first cousins; Francis (Skip) Smith, Oliver (Ollie) Smith, Brian Smith, Kevin Smith, Mary Margaret Schroeder, Martha (Marty) Williams, Leonard Waller, Monica Waller, Mary Catherine Waller, Carolyn (Waller) Gordon, Chris Waller, Mark Waller, Mark Nagorka, and Bernadine (Bernie) Bird.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents: Leo Jarome Waller and Anna Mary Gillivary Waller; and his brother Jerome J. Waller.
