Melva Jean Williams Bell, age 90 of Hume, Illinois, passed away at 6:29 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014 in Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Indiana. Mrs. Bell was born November 29, 1923, the daughter of Roy and Gertrude Hickel Williams on the Claude Thomas farm, north of Horace in Edgar Township. She grew up in the Garland-Mulberry Grove area in Shiloh Township and was a graduate of Metcalf High School, Class of 1942. On July 29, 1945, Melva married Warren Bell. Together they began their farming enterprise with Melva operating equipment, tractors and trucks. She spent 69 years in agriculture, the last 29 years she managed the farm on her own. Her pastimes included maintaining her home and yard in immaculate condition, baking cinnamon rolls, butterhorn croissants and pies for her family, in addition to everyone's favorite, the noodles for holiday dinners. Before her marriage, she worked at U.O. Colson and Company in Paris. Survivors include her daughters, Myrna Bell of Oakland, Illinois and Lynda Laughead and her husband Don of Paris, Illinois, four grandsons; Robert (Lisa) Laughead of Paris, Illinois, Scott Neal of Paris, Illinois, Ryan (Kayla) Laughead of Chrisman, Illinois and Brad (Michelle) Neal of East Moline, Illinois, two great granddaughters, Danielle and Remington Laughead, one great grandson Warren Don Laughead, four step-granddaughters; Shaylyn, Kaitlyn, Lilly and Aydrian, two sisters, Ella Wallace of Marshall, Illinois and Mary Richardson of Casey, Illinois, one brother Dean Williams of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Bell will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2014 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
