Melba Marie (Tait) Reid, age 86 of Paris, passed away in her sleep at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Life's Journey Senior Living in Paris where she lived as her Alzheimer's progressed. The family thanks Life's Journey and its caring staff for Melba's loving care. Michael Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery. Born July 2, 1929 in Pana, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Irene (Bennett) Tait. Melba was married twice, first to Bill McCrocklin (deceased) and then to James (Buddy) Reid (deceased). She was mother to Michael Tait McCrocklin, PhD (wife Sara McCrocklin) and Cathy (Reid) Englum (husband Kevin Englum), all of Paris. She was grandmother to Shannon Michelle McCrocklin, PhD (husband Jordan Johnson) of Edinburg, Texas, Jacob Englum (wife Lindsay Englum) of Paris, and Zachary Englum (partner Rico Richardson) of Chicago. Her great grandchildren are Harlee, Landen, Mckenzie, and Gage Englum, all of Paris. Melba had two brothers, Fritzie Tait (deceased) (daughters Nancy and Janet) and Robert (Bob) Tait (deceased) (wife Betty, deceased) (daughter Debbie Brinkerhoff and two sons Bobby Tait and Terry Tait). Melba was a life-long resident of Paris, graduated from Paris High School, and attended Indiana State University. She was office manager for 30 years at the JC Penney store in Paris. She also worked at the Paris Chamber of Commerce. Melba was always proud of Paris and Paris High School. She had special memories of the Ernie Eveland years when Paris High School was one of the dominant forces in basketball in Illinois. Later she was proud of the Paris High School Band. She was proud of the Edgar County Courthouse. Basically, she was proud of almost everything about Paris. Melba also loved the beaches of Florida. Flowers are welcomed, if that is what you wish to do. You could also donate to a cancer, heart, or Alzheimer's research group or association of your choice, or simply pass on your good will to those needing care and love in your community.
