Mary Fern Tomlinson's Obituary

Mary Fern Tomlinson, age 89, of Paris, Illinois passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Carriage Crossing in Paris.

A private visitation and funeral will be held with burial in Edgar Cemetery. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

She was born January 22, 1932 the daughter of the late Harold and Rita Mattingly Macke. She spent a lot of time with her grandparents Carl and Goldia (Macke) Becker throughout her childhood. She married John Allen Tomlinson on November 26, 1948 in Ridgefarm, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2012.

Mary started selling Avon on April 5, 1957. She won many awards and trips and was also a 50 year member of the Avon President's Club. As a beautiful woman, she represented Avon well, always dressed perfectly from head to toe. She was also a longtime and active member of the Oliver United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter: Marsha (Bill) Duke of Paris, Illinois; her grandchildren: Josh (Jonna) Duke of Brownsburg, Indiana, Jimmy (Christina) Tomlinson of Paris, Illinois, Jake (Michelle) Duke of Paris, Illinois; her great grandchildren: Samantha Gonzales of Paris, Illinois, Sierra Gann of Paris, Illinois, Nick Tomlinson of Oakland, Illinois, Elizabeth (Chris) Misner of Villa Grove, Illinois, Ashleigh Sanders of Paris, Illinois, Brittany Nading of Paris, Illinois, Ashli Close of Charleston, Illinois, Raleigh Duke of Marshall, Illinois, Dawson Duke of Marshall, Illinois, Brielle Duke of Marshall, Illinois, Payton Duke of Brownsburg, Indiana; five great great grandchildren; and her sister in law Carrie Lance of Paris, Illinois.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband John Tomlinson; her son, Larry Tomlinson; her grandsons, Johnny and Jeremy Tomlinson; her great granddaughters, Chelsie Gann and Brina Duke; and her sisters Maxine (Les) Bennett, Jean (Ollie) Danner, and Josephine (Wm.) Apple.

She will be remembered as someone who was a hard worker that enjoyed gardening, canning, and was a wonderful cook. Every Sunday after attending church, she prepared a huge meal for her family. Mary loved her family, kept them close, and defended them always.
