Mary "Joan" Brengle, 93, of Paris, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14 th at Horizon Health Community Hospital in Paris, IL with her family at her side.
Joan was born on August 15th, 1929 in Marshall, IL, the daughter of Golmon "Buck" and Marcella (McManus) Eldredge. She grew up on her family farm helping raise chickens, and planting and harvesting the garden. She attended Paris High School. She married William "Bill" Brengle on March 18th, 1947. Her beloved husband of almost 76 years survives.
Survivors also include her son, John (Lori) Brengle of Metcalf, IL; granddaughter Trisha (Wade) Hendry of Homer, IL, granddaughter Michelle (Jeff) Young of Camargo, IL, and grandson Joel (Andrea) Clausen of Greenwood, IN; six great-grandchildren: Eli, Emmett, and Ellie Hendry, Jack and Scarlett Young, Levi Clausen; niece Sandy Fellers of Champaign, IL and many other loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Adda Lee Cox, Catherine Pendley, Marcella Elledge, brother Joe Eldredge and great-grandson Bryce Clausen.
Joan was a devout and lifelong member of St. Mary's Church of Paris. She served as President of Home Bureau Lessons on Homemaking in the 1940s and 1950s. She worked for Edgar County Farm Bureau, Adams Grain, and managed Cargill Elevator for fifteen years. Joan was instrumental in the success and continuation of the multi-generational Brengle Family Farm. Her support and attention to detail helped carry the farm through the fourth generation and for generations to come. She maintained all bookkeeping for Brengle Brothers and delivered meals to the field for every worker on the family farm for 10 years during her retirement.
Joan was an avid card player and enjoyed playing Euchre with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and made family dinners extra special with her formal presentation in the family dining room. Joan loved watching basketball and was able to participate in many conversations discussing team and player rankings. Bill and Joan enjoyed traveling and have driven to all 48 continental states in the U.S. and cruised to Alaska. Bill and Joan celebrated their 75 th wedding anniversary with family on March 18th, 2022. The special love they shared for over 75 years will be a cherished memory for their family always.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 18th at Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home at 1:00 pm with Fr. Valery Burusu as celebrant. Visitation will be held at 11:00 am prior to the memorial service. Burial will be in Edgar Cemetery, Paris, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Mary's Church of Paris, IL.
