Martin Thomas Rhodes, age 62 of Paris, passed away at 8:40 a.m. Monday, January 1, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.
The Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 8 in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Mr. Rhodes was born December 2, 1955 in Paris, Illinois, the son of the late Thomas and Mary Jane (Sullivan) Rhodes. He married Anita Cingolani on September 28, 1974 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Martin attended Brocton Grade School and Shiloh High School. He graduated from Indiana State University with a bachelor's degree in business. He worked at Bachrach Men's Clothing Store. He then started working at the Illinois Cereal Mill as a grain buyer and worked there for 20 years. He had an Edward Jones office for several years. He was a grain buyer at Cline's Grain in Ladoga, Indiana until it closed.
Growing up, Martin attended St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hume, Illinois. For the past 45 years he attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris. He attended mass faithfully and was a member and former Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 860 of Paris and a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus Assembly 219 of Paris. He volunteered at St. Mary's Church and the KC Hall for several causes. He was an avid reader of the Wall Street Journal. He loved buying and selling commodities and grain. He always kept track of the markets. He also enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events.
Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife of 43 years Anita, a daughter Johna (Rhodes) Todd and her husband Jim and a son Dusty Rhodes and his wife Brittany, all of Paris, Illinois, Grandchildren; Colton Keeney, Clay Rhodes, Whitney Todd, and Ty Rhodes, all of Paris, Illinois, Siblings; Joe (Donna) Rhodes of Fishers, Indiana, Marian Lietard of Danville, Illinois, Robert Rhodes of Lake Moore, Illinois, Lou (Kathy) Rhodes of Champaign, Illinois, Bernie (Terry) Rhodes of Zeigler, Illinois, and James Rhodes of Johnson City, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Grace Sullivan and Blain and Dorothea Rhodes, his parents Thomas and Mary Jane Rhodes, and several aunts and uncles.
Martin will be greatly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren
