Margaret "Maggie" Mathews, age 87 of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 3:58 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Twin Lakes Rehab and Health Care. She was co-manager at the Elks Club and Zorah Shrine Temple and was a waitress for Sycamore Hills Country Club. Mrs. Mathews was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. Born May 25, 1929 in Paris, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Chester Owen and Oleva May (Bishop) Thompson. She married Robert Mathews May 19, 1961 in Terre Haute, Indiana, he preceded her death in 1993. Survivors include two daughters, Denise E. Tingley of Paris, Illinois and Maureen R. Nail of Paris, Illinois, a step-son Ken Mathews of Knightsville, Indiana, four grandchildren; Amy Edwards, Lisa Edwards, Pat Tingley, and Scott Rhoads, all of Paris, Illinois, one great grandson Xavier Holt of Charleston, Illinois, a step-granddaughter Tennesa Cather of Pennsylvania, and three step-great grandchildren, Jordyn, Candan, and Brionna Cather, all of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Bonita K. Rhoads and Kelly Marie Nail, a step-son Steve Mathews, and five brothers; Lester, John, Raymond, Donnie, and David Thompson. Visitation for Mrs. Mathews was held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. The funeral service followed at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 in Edgar Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, Alzheimer's Association, or to the family.
