Lee Roy Stewart,

On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, Roy passed away at UCI Medical Center in Orange, California from complications of a fractured hip; he was 88 years of age. He was born on October 12, 1931 near Redmon, Illinois, to Fred L. and Lillian (Barr) Stewart.  He was the youngest of 4 children.

Mr. Stewart graduated in the 1949 class at Paris High School. After working in a factory, he enlisted in the Navy and had his basic training at the US Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois in 1952.  He married Anna Mae Forsythe on March 30, 1952.  He was then assigned to the USS Toledo in Fox Division (Fire Control) where he continued until his release.  They were sent to Korea and were there 3 different times, serving there during the Korean Conflict.

After his service time he went to college in Long Beach, California. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Arts, and later received his Masters Degree.  He was a member of Epsilon Tau Fraternity.

During his 31 year tenure at Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights, he taught driver's training, Graphic Arts, and Photography. He and his students photographed all of the football games, plus work on the school annual; one of his students became a photographer on cruise ships.

After his retirement in 1994, he was very involved with his USS Toledo reunions, loved attending them, taking pictures for them and silk screening T-shirts for his shipmates. He enjoyed maintaining his yard and traveling.

To characterize Roy, he was a loving husband, son, brother, and uncle, always ready to help friends and neighbors. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Garden Grove, California.  He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Ilene and Violet, brother Dale, nephew Darrell Beard, and brother-in-law Harold Forsythe.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Anna Mae, sister-in-law Bettie Forsythe, many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Randy, Mike, and Scott Hudson.

The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care that he received in UCI, the ICU team, a special nurse, Seth Trevett, and the hospice team; also his care givers Amy and Ruby.

Services in California will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 in the United Methodist Church in Garden Grove, California.

Local funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home in Paris. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.  Burial will follow in Forsythe Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post 211.  Memorial contributions may be made to UCI Medical Center Research or the charity of the donor's choice.  For further information and online condolences, please visit www.stewartandcarrollfuneralhome.com .
