Larry L. "Bill" Black's Obituary

Larry L. "Bill" Black, age 72 of Mattoon and formerly of Paris, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Palm Terrace of Mattoon. Mr. Black was a farmer and worked in trucking. He also was a horse breeder and trainer, and belonged to several saddle clubs. Mr. Black was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, had been a 4-H sponsor, and was an FFA Alumni member. Born February 3, 1943 in Paris, he was the son of Earl and Katherine (Zimmerly) Black. He married Mary Jo (Mattingly) Black February 13, 1968 in Paris. She passed away July 8, 2005. Survivors include four daughters; Sandra Sherer and her husband Bart of Paris, Cindy Spencer and her husband Rich of Dennison, Amanda Martin and her husband Thad of Paris, and Ann Marie Bogue of Paris, a sister Janice Bolen of Las Vegas, Nevada, and eight grandchildren; Riley and Brody Spencer, Collin and Ian Sherer, Chayse and Chloe Martin, and Mary Jo and Shane Bogue. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Jo, a brother Wayne Black, and a son-in-law Rusty Bogue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Zimmerman officiating. Private burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
