Katie Yates Forsythe, age 82 of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away at 6:24 PM on Monday, March 31, 2025 at her home surrounded by family.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Katie was born on December 24, 1942 in Paris, Illinois to Paul Arthur and Mary Catherine (Hardy) Yates. She married Russell Jackson Forsythe on December 28, 1963 in Paris, and they have shared a loving marriage for 61 years.
Katie was a dedicated youth group leader and a member of a women's Bible study for over 40 years. She was deeply involved in the Christian community in Terre Haute and had a lifelong passion for education. She taught for two years at Riley Elementary School before dedicating her life to raising her family and caring for her children. Katie then taught for over 20 years at Community Christian School.
She is survived by her husband, her children: Matthew Forsythe (Becky), Christopher Forsythe (Dawn), Jessica Forsythe all of Terre Haute, Indiana, Erin Forsythe of Indianapolis, Indiana; her grandchildren: Maria Banks (Dylan), Walker Forsythe, Luke Forsythe, Ty Forsythe, Courtney Sluder (Denny), Alex Waugh, Jessie Wright; her great grandchildren: Chase, Adalynn, Brynlee, and Rowan; and her sister: Robin Lenhart of Terre Haute, Indiana.
Katie is preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Ally Forsythe, and her brother, Oliver "Stretch" Yates.
Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse.
