June Lorraine Patchett's Obituary

June Lorraine Jaeger Patchett died on November 11, 2020 at Pleasant Meadows Nursing Home in Chrisman, Illinois. A public Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020 in Payne Cemetery in Brocton, Illinois. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Due to Covid -19, those in attendance are asked to follow state mandates and wear masks.

June had been a long time resident of the Grace Lutheran Village and prior to that lived in the Brocton area. June was married to Thomas E. (Bob) Patchett and he preceded her in death in 1976.

She is survived by one son, Thomas and his wife Ruth, two grandchildren, Matt and wife Andrea of Denver, Colorado, and Christina Kanak and her husband Jake of Odessa, Missouri and two great grandchildren Julieanne and Jay Kanak.  She is also survived by nephews, cousins, and her beloved class of 1963 from Young America High School.

June was born in Chicago, August 6, 1921 the daughter of William and Esther (Wollenberg) Jaeger, who preceded her in death along with a brother Mark. She grew up in the Lansing, IL area where she graduated from Thornton-Fractional High School. She graduated from Illinois State University and received a Masters degree from the University of Illinois. She was a lifetime University of Illinois Alumni member and loved Illinois athletics as well as the Cubs.

She taught Home Economics and Biology for over 35 years. June was an avid world traveler and especially enjoyed the trips she took with her grandchildren to Europe and out west.  Her other interests included swimming, reading, gardening and cooking.

Staff at Pleasant Meadows appreciated her wonderful wit and always the teacher she was correcting their grammar till the end. A CNA at the home recalled after complimenting June on how beautiful she looked one day said "I should, I have only been working on it for 99 years."

June was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice.
