Judith Jane
Toensing
October 19, 1943 – August 20, 2021
Judith "Judy" Jane (Suffern) Toensing went home to be with her heavenly father on August 20, 2021.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Paris, Illinois. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the V.A. Cemetery in Danville, Illinois. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Judy was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 19, 1943. The daughter of the late Richard John and Agnes (Erickson) Suffern. Following the death of her father, at the age of 19, Judy moved with her aunt to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She met the love of her life Maynard Toensing at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Judy and Maynard were married on July 6, 1963. They had 3 children, Maynard Jr., Faith, and Andrew.
She worked for the family business, Erwin and Sons, for a while and then decided she wanted to spread Gods' love by doing day care at home. She provided daycare for 22 years. After closing her daycare, Judy loved keeping in touch with the children and their families. She loved them all as if they were her own.
Judy was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. We are happy she has no more pain and is in heaven. She is survived by her loving husband Maynard Toensing; son Maynard (Shelley) Toensing Jr. of Crete, Nebraska; daughter Faith Toensing (fiancé Jerry Hatley) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Andrew Toensing of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister Annette (John) Frank of St. Louis, Missouri; grandsons Steven Toensing and Jacob (Morgan) Toensing and great-grandchildren Judah and Ava; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Richard John and Agnes (Erickson) Suffern.
Judy loved to serve her Savior and was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albuquerque for many years. She loved being a greeter at Immanuel and loved her church family there. Judy and Maynard moved to Paris, Illinois in 2011, where she enjoyed drives through the countryside. Judy also enjoyed being a greeter at Grace Lutheran Church in Paris and enjoyed her new family at Grace Lutheran Village. She witnessed to others through prison ministry, where she would correspond with prisoners and pray for them. On March 20, 2020, Judy suffered a stroke and following her hospital stay, she went to live at Marshall Rehab and Nursing where she lived out the rest of her days, continuing to serve her Savior as she witnessed to the staff and other residents. She continued to have daily devotions with Maynard and to pray for others right up to her last days.
Memorials may be made to either Grace Lutheran CDC or G.A.P Prison Ministry.
