Joe Daughhetee, a respected accountant and community leader, passed away on July 17, 2024, at the age of 85.
Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home in Paris, Illinois. Memorial service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Born on May 6, 1939, to Sylvan D and Mary Elizabeth (Dunn) Daughhetee, Joe dedicated his life to the field of accounting. After his career as a CPA and partner at Kessler and Company, he went on to establish his own successful firm, Daughhetee & Parks, with Phyllis Parks which specialized in agricultural accounting, auditing and financial services.
As a founding member of the Farm Financial Standards Council, Joe volunteered countless hours over the years on various committees and served as President of the Council in 2002. He made significant contributions to the agricultural community developing financial guidelines for Agricultural production, Farm Operations and business management.
Joe's academic achievements were equally impressive. He earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Illinois University, laying a strong foundation for his distinguished career. He later served on the EIU Accountancy Advisory Board which provided advice to the faculty and Chair regarding curriculum development, faculty involvement in the profession, and research to ensure the development and continuance of a dynamic program in accountancy.
Beyond his professional life, Joe was a dedicated martial artist, holding a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. His discipline and perseverance in this field reflected the same qualities he brought to his work and community involvement. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris, Illinois and Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville, Illinois.
Joe's legacy will be remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched through his work and personal endeavors. His contributions to agricultural accounting and the standards that govern it have left an indelible mark on the industry. He co-authored a book advising the United States Department of Agriculture.
He is survived by his children, Robert "Rusty" Daughhetee, Debbie Daughhetee, Theresa Melaragno, Deanna Daughhetee, seven grandchildren, Kristin, Katelyn, Savanna, Melissa, Kelci, John and Noah, and 5 great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and the values he embodied.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Betty Whitney of Florida and Anna Mae Reeley of Paris, nephew Brad Reeley and daughter Cynthia of Phoenix, AZ.
Joe Daughhetee's life was a testament to dedication, excellence, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
