John S. Hernandez, age 65 of Hume, Illinois, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. He was retired from the United States Navy.  John attended St. Michaels Catholic Church at Hume and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 860 in Paris, VFW Post 3601 in Paris, and American Legion Post 477 in Chrisman.

Born March 30, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of Raymond and Patricia (McVey) Hernandez. He married Frances (Jones) Hernandez July 26, 1999 in Farmington, Missouri and she survives.  Other survivors include his mother Patricia Hernandez of St. Louis, Missouri, step children; Thomas (Ashley) Jones of Charleston, Illinois, Rachel (Dale) Washburn of Paris, Roger Jones of Hume, and Kate Brewer of Kingsport, Tennessee, step grandchildren; Eli Jones of Charleston, Illinois, Devin Farris of Fort Benning, Georgia, and Thomas and Katherine Brewer of Kingsport, Tennessee, siblings; Anita (Roy) Albright of St. Louis, Carly Hernandez of Navarre, Florida, Belinda (Gerry) Rush of Port Angeles, Washington, Casey (Dave) Laboube of St. Louis, Tim (Joy) Hernandez of Labadie, Missouri, Tom (Val) Hernandez of Morison, Missouri, Diana (Lonnie) Sullivan of Byrnes Mill, Missouri, Eva (Edwin) Lettnecker of St. Louis, and Jeff (Claudette) Hernandez of House Springs, Missouri, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Rosary recitation will be 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Memorial visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris with Rev. Fr. Aloysius Okey Ndeanaefo officiating.
