John Robert Garver age 78, of Paris, Illinois passed away at 1:20 P.M. on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Danville VA Community Living Center.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Cook officiating. Burial will take place in Edgar Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #211.

John was born on November 6, 1946, in Paris, Illinois to Robert Dalton and Nellie A. (Weddle) Garver. He married Rebecca Wiltermood on July 3, 1968, at Horace Baptist Church and she survives.

John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from June 1964 to April 1968, he was a Vietnam veteran. He received his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University and was a guard and counselor at the Illinois Department of Corrections in Danville, Illinois. He was longtime member of Horace Baptist Church and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, his children: Pastor David Garver (Jami) of Lansing, Michigan, Billy Garver (Stacy) of Columbia, South Carolina, Chris Garver (Valerie) of Charleston, Illinois; his grandchildren: Morgan Allen, David Garver, Micah Garver, Jonathan Garver, Kaylie Garver, Olivia Garver; his great grandchildren: Thomas, Titus, Matthias, Thad, Addelyn, Wesley; and his sister: Nancy Swanson .

John is preceded in death by his parents, his great granddaughter, Haley; and his siblings: Glory Viditot and Gay Lyn Gove.
