Joanne M. Huffaker, 98, peacefully passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 in Carmel, Indiana. She was cared for by her son, Danny and his partner, Kenny in their home the last eight years.
Visitation will be Saturday February 3, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. CST at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home; 303 East Wood Street, Paris, IL. Funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Scott Cemetery in Chrisman, IL following the service.
She was born August 9, 1925 to Leo C. and Margaret Reisert Suesz. Joanne was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. She graduated from Arsenal Tech High School. After high school, she traveled to California where she spent the summer with her closest friends.
She worked for Warner Brothers in the 1940's, and later worked as the Executive Secretary for the United States Auto Club/500 mile race for over 25 years.
Joanne was active in church, including being the Treasurer, choir and handbell member, and the secretary. She was passionate about her Christian faith and her family! Joanne was an excellent cook and dedicated homemaker.
Her hobbies included: singing and traveling in the Sweet Adelines Capital City Chorus for over 10 years, playing on a bowling league, swimming, tennis, tutoring, dancing (the Jitterbug and two-step), playing Bridge at Robin Run for 7 years, sewing, gardening, being a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital, a member of the Indy 500 Oldtimers Club, attending the ISO POPS regularly and travel (Alaska, Hawaii, France, Spain, Italy, a cruise to the Bahamas and travel throughout the USA).
Joanne was gracious, gregarious, loving, and strong, with a great sense of humor. She was positive and enthusiastic, being an eternal optimist. She was a very social person with many close friends.
Joanne is survived by her three children: Greg (Sarah), Diana (Jon), Daniel (Kenny); her fifteen grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
Joanne is preceded in death by her husband, Allen (whom she met at the Indiana Roof Ballroom); her son, David; her daughter, Linda (Mike) Clifton; and her siblings: Leonard F. Suesz, Dorothy A. Wheatley, and Margie E. Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Life Journey Church, Indianapolis, where she attended the last eight years; or to Heartland Hospice, Indianapolis.
