Jim was born on September 17, 1945, in Paris, Illinois to James Calvin Dickey Sr. and Martha Lutheria (Eveland) Dickey. He married Tonya Anita Deem. Jim and his wife often joked about being old parents like Abraham and Sarah when their only child Rebekah arrived.

He worked as a sales representative for American Solutions for Business where he sold promotional products to many local businesses. Jim was a longtime and faithful member of Nevins Christian Church. He began each morning by meeting his friends for coffee, enjoyed playing Bridge and Euchre with his club in Paris, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Jim is survived by his wife, Tonya Anita Dickey; and his daughter, Rebekah Erin Dickey.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Jim also shared a special bond with the Shields family, especially Kelsha, who worked alongside him in his office and cared for he and Tonya in their later years.
