James H. Griffin, 91 of Paris, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Sugar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Normal, IL. He achieved the rank of corporal in the U.S. Army, which he was in from January 1952 until January 1954. He worked at the Blue Link Grocery when he was in high school. Then he worked for the U.O. Colson Company, Horace Link Furniture store and retired from the Secretary of State's office. He was a member of the Bell Ridge Christian Church, where he taught Sunday School, was a deacon, elder and Chairman of the board. He was on the Clark-Edgar water board from its inception until June, 2018. He was a member of the Asher community club.
James was born May 9, 1929 on Jefferson Street in Paris, Illinois; he was the son of the late Howard and Lillie (Parsley) Griffin. He married Betty J. Drake June 30, 1950. He is survived by his children: Virginia "Ginny" Stoeber and her husband Jerome of Bloomington, Illinois and Wayne H. Griffin of Paris; his brother Ralph Griffin and his wife Betty Jo and a sister Phyllis Brooks and her husband Russell all of Paris; his sisters-in-law: Norma Griffin of Paris and Betty Griffin of Casey; his grandchildren: Katie Keller and her husband Greg of Paris, Illinois, Jennifer Stoeber of Normal, Illinois, Andrew Stoeber of Normal, Illinois and Alycia Elliott and her husband Chris of Danville, Indiana, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Betty J. Griffin; his two brothers: John Russell Griffin and Phyllip Griffin; his sister: Alice Marietta and a daughter-in-law Vickie Griffin.
In Keeping with Federal Mandates; the service is limited to immediate family only. A private graveside service with Kurt Speece officiating will be May 14, 2020 at the Edgar Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion 211. Memorial contributions may be made to the Asher Community Club or Bell Ridge Christian Church.
