James L. Eveland, age 79 of Paris, passed away at 8:19 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He worked at U.O. Colson and Company and also at Ivy Hill in Terre Haute, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky. He was a member of the National Guard 1544th Transportation Company and was activated and served during Desert Storm. He was a member of Nevins Christian Church, VFW Post 3601, and American Legion Post 211. Mr. Eveland also did volunteer finish carpentry work for Habitat For Humanity. Born January 24, 1938 in Paris, Illinois, he was the son of the late Robert and Ida Rosalie (Humphrey) Eveland. He married Ruby Eveland February 8, 1957; she passed away April 18, 2004. He married Norma Louise (Dawson) Cunningham Eveland July 19, 2005 and she survives. Other survivors include his children; James A. Eveland of Paris, Amy S. Jenkins of Decatur, and Brian S. Eveland of Pontiac, step-children; Janet Tyler of Paris, James Cunningham of Paris, Vicki Whitesell of Paris, and Chris Cornelius of Indianapolis, three siblings; Robert Eveland, Marcella Johnson, and Charles Eveland, all of Paris, eighteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two siblings, Eugene Eveland and Kathryn Hiddle, and a step grandson Levi Tyler. Visitation for Mr. Eveland will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2017 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Edgar Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post 211 and VFW Post 3601.
