James P. Englum, age 80, of Paris, IL a lifelong Paris businessman, community supporter and philanthropist passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 in Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN on the anniversary of the birth of his deceased mother;  Marie Waller Englum.  Mr. Englum is primarily known for his fifty year ownership of Safford Monument Company which formed in 1865, of which he was the second family owner. A graduate of Paris High School, he attended Indiana State University before returning to Paris to begin his career on the Ralph S. Englum family farm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Zimmerman as celebrant. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday by the Knights of Columbus, Council 860 at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery or Edgar Cemetery.

Jim was born December 5, 1935 in Paris, the son of the late Ralph S. and Marie Leota Waller Englum.  James P. Englum is survived by his wife, Margaret Harvey Wilson Englum and her children, Greg Wilson of Paris Illinois and Marc Harvey Wolf of Denver, Colorado.  He is also survived by his ex-wife: Charlotte Carnahan (Mike) Marra of Sellersburg, Indiana and their children and grandchildren: Jeff Englum and son Christian of Indianapolis, Indiana,  Jennifer (Mike) Wolf and sons Andy and Ryan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,  Jill (Luke) Morehead and daughters Madison, Abigail and Joanna of Noblesville, Indiana, Jamie (Dan) Kelly, sons Charlie, Casey, Will, Tom, Jack, Bart and daughters Elle Marie and Elizabeth, and Jessica (Forrest) Badgley and daughters Penelope (Nell) and Maxine of Northbrook, Illinois. Besides work, Mr. Englum was instrumental in improving the grade and middle school St. Mary's Falcons, into a youth football champion program. The Paris Saints Program touched the lives of many Paris youth throughout the years. Mr. Englum was a District 95 Board of Education member in the 1970s.   During this time he worked with the community on upgrading the athletic facilities at the John P Allen Memorial Field.   He continued his involvement as a volunteer consultant with the formation committee in building the new Paris High School. Mr. Englum was a lifelong volunteer for the Edgar county Chapter of the American Red Cross.  He was a member of the Finance Committee for his parish of Saint Mary's.  Jim was a Past Exulted Ruler of the local Elks Lodge BPOE #812.  Jim was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #860.  Mr. Englum was the President of the Edgar County Cemetery Board and Superintendent of St. Mary's Cemetery.   He was also a Co-Chair of the Friends of Paris Community Hospital organization and recipient of the Parisian Award in 2008.
