Helen Marie "Bunny" Bibo's Obituary

Helen Marie "Bunny" Bibo (née Winsock), of Paris, passed away peacefully at the age of 96, on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Vigo County, Indiana.

Bunny was born to Winifred E. (née Harris) and Joseph A. Winsock on November 21, 1926, in Yonkers, New York and was raised in Newport, Rhode Island. As a child, she survived the 1938 New England hurricane, after being swept into a reservoir adjacent to Easton Beach (commonly known as First Beach) in Newport. She recalled the event with great detail even in her final year of life, remembering that her coat had been washed away in the maelstrom. Back on dry ground, her favorite childhood past time was riding her horse, Judy.

Bunny went on to graduate from Penn Hall Preparatory School, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania in 1944 and Bradford Jr. College, Haverhill, Massachusetts in 1946. Fate then brought her to DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana where she was a member of the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega women's fraternity. It was at DePauw where she met and fell in love with Philip G. Bibo, of Paris, Illinois. They were married on August 30, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris.

Together, Bunny and Phil had five children, Cherie Bibo Lehman of Paris, Robin (Larry) White of Kansas City, MO, Hellie (Craig) Smith of Paris, Michelle (Ed) Vaughn of Paris, and the late Philip A. Bibo of Paris. Bunny returned to school, earning her BS in English Education at Indiana State University in 1968. Her storied career as an English teacher began at Ridge Farm High School from 1968-1969, followed by Paris High School, 1969-1988. Bunny and Phil travelled together until his death in 1991. She made the Midwest her home but was always a New Englander at heart. She loved dogs and cats, rescuing many over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip George Bibo and her son, Philip Anthony Bibo. She is survived by her four daughters, 12 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Bunny was the life of the party, a voracious reader, a stickler for grammar, and a true one of a kind.
