Harold R.
Lowry Jr.
Jun 21, 1945 — Jun 18, 2026
Harold (Sonny) R. Lowry Jr., 80, of Paris, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, surrounded by the love of his family.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Franklin Cemetery. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Harold was born on June 21, 1945, in Paris, to Harold R. Lowry Sr. and Helen (Hill) Lowry. On December 14, 1969, he married Marilyn Jean Griffin in Paris. Together they built a life rooted in family, hard work, and perseverance. Jean preceded him in death.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Harold was self-employed for much of his life and pursued a variety of ventures. Over the years, he worked in farming, trucking, construction, mobile home park management, and residential rental properties. Through determination, vision, and an unwavering work ethic, he built successful businesses that provided for his family and created opportunities for others. His drive and resilience were evident in everything he undertook.
Harold was known for his independence, resourcefulness, and steadfast commitment to those he loved. He found joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors, where he felt most at peace. While he was a man of few words, he expressed his love through his actions, by working hard, helping others when they were in need, and quietly supporting his family. Those who knew him best understood that his kindness was often shown not through what he said, but through what he did.
Above all, Harold was devoted to his family. He took great pride in providing for them and found his greatest satisfaction in seeing them grow and succeed. His strength, determination, and example of perseverance will remain with those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Rauworth (Eric); his son, Marc Lowry (Brienne); his grandchildren, Katherine, Lauren, Alice, Juniper, and Maeve; his brother, Mike Lowry; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Jean Lowry; his son, Harold Roy Lowry; his parents, Harold R. Lowry Sr. and Helen (Hill) Lowry; his sisters, Patricia Ann Bapp and Norma Eveland; and his brother, Larry Lowry.
Harold will be remembered for his determination, entrepreneurial spirit, quiet generosity, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the values of hard work and perseverance he passed on to future generations.
