Hal Richard "Dick" Fonner, 93, passed away at 3:48 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Clinton Gardens in Clinton, Indiana.

A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, in Hoult Cemetery in Chrisman, Illinois. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Dick was born on December 21, 1929, in rural Kansas, Illinois, the son of the late Lester Franklin and Zella Estella Jones Fonner. He married Lydia Ann Honnold on October 9, 1952. She survives.

Dick proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. After his time in the military, he spent 23 years in Federal Civil Service and many years farming. Outside of farming, his hobbies included wood working, and working on different types of engines.

He is also survived by his children: Catherine Rogers of Chrisman, Paula Gleesing of Fredericksburg, Virgina, Charles R. Fonner of Chrisman; his 4 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Dick is preceded in death by 1 daughter; 5 brothers; and 1 sister.

Memorials may be made to Pinehaven Childrens Ranch or Chrisman Christian Church Food Pantry.
