Georgie Ann McDonald Campbell died on January 4, 2016 in Paris, Il surrounded by her loving family. Georgie was born in Giddings, Texas on June 24, 1932, the oldest child of Harold George Luther McDonald and Reifa Augusta Etzel McDonald. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold McDonald, brother Ted Ennis McDonald and her husband, Ernest William Campbell, Jr.
Georgie was a courageous woman who learned to drive at the age of 12 so she could help support her family. She was known for sharing in adventures with her brother Harold and cousin Rosie, her partners in crime and fun. She worked as a teenager in the family diner during WWII and, although she was not yet an adult, her job made her a recipient of ration books. She frequently gave her chocolate bars to younger brother Harold. After graduating from Giddings High School, where she was elected All-School Favorite as a sophomore and Peanut Princess, she received her BA in Education from the University of Texas at Austin. She taught Kindergarten in Austin briefly, then became a flight attendant with American Airlines. There she was introduced to Ernie Campbell on a blind date; they were married in 1957.
Georgie taught school again and raised her family in north Texas, where she and Ernie retired and took up traveling. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Katherine and Elizabeth. She was a faithful member of Saint Phillip Presbyterian Church in Hurst, Texas until she moved to Paris, Il to be closer to family. Georgie was a kind person who enjoyed learning about others. She endured personal struggles, but was a lady and earned the respect of those
who knew her well.
Georgie is survived by her daughter Mary Taylor and husband Gary, granddaughters Katherine and Elizabeth Taylor, and daughter Kathy Campbell and husband Blane. She is also survived by her cousin Rosalie Scott and sister-in-law Beverly McDonald, her best friends.
