George E. Spencer, age 87 of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 8:45 am Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Horizon Health Hospital in Paris. Mr. Spencer was a mechanic for Floyd Miller DX Gas Station and a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a former member of American Legion Post 211 and VFW Post 3601.

Born August 20, 1931 in Marshall, Illinois, he was the son of the late William A. and Julia (Blockinger) Spencer. He married Margaret (Blaker) Spencer January 9, 1960 in Paris and she survives.

Other survivors include a son Darrell Spencer of Marshall, a daughter-in-law Cathy Clawson of Paris, a sister Virginia Cunningham of Chrisman, two grandchildren, Brandy Clawson and Jennifer (Jim) Osborne, both of Paris, five great grandchildren; Dalton Hall of Kansas, Cameron and Kyle Daugherty, both of Paris, and Destiny and Chase Morgan, both of Princeton, Illinois, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Billy Clawson, and seven siblings; Fred Spencer, Donnie Ray Spencer, Bobby Lou Spencer, Vernie Spencer, Stella Gosnell, Bill Spencer, and Annabelle Hickman.

Funeral services for Mr. Spencer will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2018 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in York Cemetery in West Union, Illinois with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 211 and VFW Post 3601.
