George Albert Dunn, age 89, passed away at 10:33 a.m. Tuesday, February 28 at Paris Community Hospital. He was born February 27, 1928, the son of Albert and Margaret Mercer Dunn. As his mother Margaret died following childbirth, George was raised with love by Albert and Mary E. Conner Dunn. George graduated from Scotland High School in 1946 and was engaged in farming in Edgar and Brouilletts Creek townships throughout his life. He married Mary Elizabeth Fulton on June 17, 1950 and she preceded him in death in February 2008. Mr. Dunn is survived by his son James Francis Dunn of Chrisman, Illinois and his daughter Janice (Paul W.) Schultz of Poway, California. His sister Cecelia Ann (Earl D) Grubb of Chrisman also survives. George was a proud grandfather of Michael (Heather) Dunn of Paris, Illinois, Mark (Ali) Dunn of West Lafayette, Indiana, Kurt (Jennifer) Schultz of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Kathryn Schultz of San Diego, California. Five great grandchildren also brightened his life; Sean Dunn, Ada and Edie Dunn, and Benjamin and Elliot Schultz. Mr. Dunn was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris and he enjoyed recalling his service to the Unit 4/Crestwood School Board of Education in the 1960s. George especially enjoyed attending local sporting events, and he and Mary Eliz were honored to be Paris Tiger "Fans of the Year," 1998-1999. Up to very recent weeks, George read the local newspapers voraciously, monitored the grain markets daily, and kept bird food and a salt-lick for the deer behind his apartment at Brookstone Estates of Paris, where he resided since September 2011. Occasionally he typed notes and memories to the family on his typewriter. He valued and appreciated his Edgar County heritage and his many friends. Visitation for Mr. Dunn will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ronald Hilt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery or St. Mary's Church.
