Francis Dane Hess, age 80, of Chrisman, Illinois passed away peacefully at 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Friends Chapel Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #477.
Dane was born on February 27, 1944, in Danville, Illinois to Phillip Harold and Vida (Skidmore) Hess. He married Judy Ogle on November 24, 1966, at St. Mary's Catholic Church and she survives.
Dane was a proud and dedicated member of the Illinois National Guard, where he served with the 1544th Transportation Company. He was a graduate of Scottland High School. Dane was a farmer, and he also worked for over 20 years for the ASCS office and worked for McLane Midwest and NAL. He also spent time as a mail carrier, school aid and bus driver. An avid sports fan, he cheered for the Yankees, the University of Illinois, and the Chicago Bears.
He is survived by his wife, his children: Tammy Savage (Pat) of Washington, Illinois, Steve Hess (Tasia) of Mahomet, Illinois, David Hess (Jill) of Savoy, Illinois, Larry Hess (Cathy) of Paris, Illinois; his grandchildren: Cayla Carruthers (Colter), Parker Hess, Landon Hess, Emma Rohrer, Lauren Hess, Carr Hess, Christiana Hess, Evan Hess, Josh Savage, Matt Savage, Chris Savage; his great grandchildren: Riley Hess and Beckett Hess; his sister, Connie Simpson (Kerry) of Chrisman, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
Dane was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Floyd Hess, Carolyn Hutson, Hazel Wyant, and Edwin Hess.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Transitions Hospice or St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
