Emily Ann Ward Nixon, age 89 of Kansas City passed away at 5:50 A.M. on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Paris, Illinois. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Emily was born on August 5, 1933 in Paris, Illinois to Charles Shelby and Julia Wood Ward. Her family moved to Mt. Vernon, Illinois where Emily completed her primary and secondary education before graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois and she was homecoming queen at her high school and college. Emily moved to her beloved Chicago where she earned a Masters Degree from Northwestern University and lived most of her adult life.

Emily's career included teaching and subsequent positions in the legal and financial industries. She was a strong supporter of the arts and philanthropic causes, and she was a founding member of the Old Master's Society at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Emily was a woman of strong faith and a devoted mother and grandmother, and she is survived by her son: Ward (Sarah) Nixon of Leawood, Kansas and her grandchildren: Julia Nixon, Audrey Nixon, and George Nixon.
