Dorothy Eileen (Roll) Pembor, 97 of Brocton, Illinois passed away on Thursday October 15, 2020 at her home.
Dorothy was born July 31, 1923 in Brocton to William and Ethel (Lea) Roll. She married Robert John Pembor on October 19, 1946 in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1961.
Dorothy graduated with honors from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1944 with a degree in General Home Economics. Upon graduation, she began her career in fashion as a buyer for Sears-Roebuck in Chicago where she met Robert. After marriage, she returned home to Brocton to start raising her family and farm. Dorothy was also an Elementary Teacher at both Brocton and Newman for more than 30 years all while managing her farm. After retirement, she worked as the Assistant Postmaster for Brocton for many years. She loved reading, puzzles, music and dancing, and spending time with her family.
In her life, Dorothy was a member of both the Brocton and Newman Methodist churches. She was also a very active member of Eastern Star, Chapter 7, for more than 70 years. She was a Grand Lecturer and Grand Matron in 1957.
She is survived by her daughter Janine L (Teddy) Cross of Ogden; sister-in-law Jackie Roll of Paris; grandchildren: Amy Faulkner of Waco, Georgia, Tom Cross (Anne Carbonneau) of Champaign, Rosa Smith (Rob Trine) of Brocton, Heather Keys of Gypsum, Colorado, Rustin (Amanda) Keys of Paris, Cathy Cross (BJ Clark) of Urbana, Bobby Pembor of Paris; great-grandchildren: Katlyn Smith, Stephanie Keys, Kaylee Faulkner, Alyssa Keys, Austin Keys, Eli Wolfe, Mark Ike Wolfe, Jack Wolfe, Judd Wolfe, Savannah Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her sons John Pembor in 2003 and Mark Pembor in 2001. She was also preceded in death by sisters Hannah (AJ) McHenry, Mary Jane (Bill) Cole, Marjorie (Dick) Spoor and brother Bill Roll.
Graveside service will be held at Embarrass Cemetery on Friday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. In keeping with Federal Mandates due to COVID-19 Pandemic, everyone is welcome but are asked to be patient and abide by the state regulation of 25 visitors with masks and distancing at the service. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Illinois Autism Association in recognition of her great-grandson, Eli Wolfe.
