Donald Lee "Buck" Hiatt's Obituary

Donald Lee "Buck" Hiatt, age 92 of Paris, Illinois passed away at 8:00 A.M. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Harrison Crossing in Terre Haute, Indiana surrounded by family.

Per his wishes, no services are planned at this time. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Buck was born on May 4, 1931 in Paris, Illinois to George and Helen (Hite) Hiatt. He married Waunitta Mae Wallace on June 17, 1955 in Paris, Illinois. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2021.

He proudly served his country as a member in the United States Marines, during the Korean War. After he was discharged from the military, he owned and operated Hiatt Distributing Company for over 20 years. After owning his business, he worked for Shaklee Distributors, was a Real Estate Agent for Century 21, and worked for Winters Associates.

He was a former member of the District 95 School Board, American Legion Post #211, Masonic Lodge #77, and the Marine Corp. League of Terre Haute. In his earlier years, Buck enjoyed mushroom hunting, bowling, and rooting for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the Fighting Illini. He also enjoyed Indy Car Racing, especially going to the Indy 500.

He is survived by his children: Terry Hiatt, Cheryl L. Farnham (Karl); his grandchildren: Kortnie Murray (Scott) of Bridgeport, Illinois, Chelsey Schallenberg (Bryan) of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Ashlee Hiatt (Landon Larrance) of Paris, Illinois, Logan Farnham (Michaela Marion) of Paris, Illinois; his step grandchildren: Chase Murray (Daphne), Dalton Murray, Hannah Murray; and his great grandchildren: Ella Arnold, Leila Arnold, McKinlee Shewey, Oaklee Larrance, Brody English, Henry Schallenberg, and Baby Schallenberg.

Buck is preceded in death by his wife, his son, Marty Hiatt, and his parents.

He will always be remembered for his "Happy Day" greeting.
