David V. Steidl, Sr., age 94, formerly of Lockport, IL, passed away February 18, 2023, at Glenbrook Hopital, Glenbrook, IL, surrounded by family.

David was born October 30, 1928, in Paris, IL, the son of Joseph V. and Mary A. Steidl. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Shirley(nee Bolton), daughters Barbara Condra and Janet Steidl (Glen Madeja), son David; two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers John (Jack) and Joseph (Joe), and sister Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Money. He grew up in Paris, graduating from Paris High School in 1946 and from the University of Notre Dame in 1950. He spent a 35 year career in nuclear energy research at Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, IL. David was an avid gardener, photographer, reader, opera lover, outdoorsman, and sports fan. During his retirement, David, his brothers, and family members enjoyed numerous bareboat sailing adventures in the waters of the Virgin Islands, Mediterranean, and Kingdom of Tonga.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Paris, IL. A private graveside gathering will be held later in the spring. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family.
