Darrell Wilbur Laughead, age 88 of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 3:01 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Paris Community Hospital. He was a farmer and also had worked at MECO, retiring from both. Darrell was a member of Lake Ridge Christian Church, a life-long member of the Edgar County Farm Bureau, served on the Kansas School Board, was the former Fire Chief of Grandview Fire Department, and had served for over 20 years on the Edgar County Sheriff's Merit Commission. He enjoyed playing Bingo, watching his St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with his family. Born April 2, 1928 in Kansas, Illinois, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Elsie (Childress) Laughead. He married Mary Ann Webright April 2, 1946 and she passed away April 15, 2013. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Wilson and her husband Robert of Charleston, Illinois and Janet Justice and her husband Gene of Paris, Illinois, a sister Dorothy Heltsley of Kansas, Illinois, a brother Donavon Laughead of Paris, Illinois, four granddaughters; Bobbi Richardson and her husband Chris of Denver, North Carolina, Tara Reedy of Charleston, Illinois, Jodi Theirl and her husband Chris of Paris, Illinois, and Dana Ball and her husband Jason of Paris, Illinois, and eight great grandchildren; Blake and Dylan Richardson of Denver, North Carolina, Braden and Ashlyn Reedy of Charleston, Illinois, Olivia and Ian Theirl of Paris, Illinois, and Mackenzie and Jonathan Ball of Paris, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers; Dale Laughead, Dwight Laughead, and Denny Laughead, a sister Doris Swartz, and two infant siblings. Visitation for Mr. Laughead will be held from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Twin Lakes All Abilities Playground.
