Cornelius E. "Connie" Ashley, age 96 of St. Mary-Of-The-Woods, Indiana and formerly of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Providence Healthcare, St. Mary-Of-The-Woods, Indiana. Mr. Ashley retired as President and General Manager of Midwest Body Manufacturing Corporation. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 860, and American Legion Post 211. He was United States Army veteran of World War II. Born July 12, 1921 in Edgar County, Illinois, he was the son of the late Ellis B. and Mabel Margaret (Powers) Ashley. He married Ruth (Waller) Ashley June 18, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris, Illinois. Survivors include his wife of 71 years Ruth Ashley of St. Mary-Of-The-Woods, Indiana, four children; Linda (Fred) McHenry of Paris, Illinois, James (Lisa) Ashley of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Robert Ashley of Danville, Indiana, and Daniel (Lisa) Ashley of Gallatin, Tennessee, six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, four brothers, and one granddaughter. Visitation for Mr. Ashley will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with Rosary recitation to be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris with Rev. Fr. Ronald Hilt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 211 and VFW Post 3601. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
