Charles Alfred Poole, age 87 of Paris, passed away at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Paris Healthcare Center. He was a retired Dispatcher and Jailer for the Edgar County Sheriff Department. Mr. Poole was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from September 23, 1947 to September 22, 1951. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paris where he served as usher and was on the Church Finance Committee and was a member of Paris Masonic Lodge 268 AF & AM. He was the first coordinator for the Ambulance Service in Chrisman, Illinois. Born September 14, 1928 in Rockville, Indiana, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mildred (Todd) Poole. He married Peggy J. (Sears) Fletcher Poole February 28, 1981 in Oblong, Illinois and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Loretta S. Boyer of Paris and Regina E. Poole of Minooka, Illinois, two step-daughters, Diana L. (Tim) McClintock of Kansas, Illinois and Dara L. (Mac) Stickler of Covington, Indiana, a sister Clarice Miller of Beecher City, Illinois, seven grandchildren; Rene (Curtis) Miller of Marshall, Rochelle (Scott) Miller of Iowa, Annette (Kelly) Spires of Marshall, Jon (Gabriel) Kerr of Minooka, Illinois, Andrea (Chris) Wietting of Braidwood, Illinois, Amanda (Pat) Roberts of Paris, and Chad Stickler of Springfield, eleven great grandchildren; Curtis Miller, Jessica (Joe) Bartnick, Cierra Miller, Jacob Miller, Wyatt Johnson, Walker Johnson, Parker Spires, Piper Kerr, Elizabeth Wietting, Austin Wietting, and Kayla Stickler, and one great-great grandchild, Madison Bartnick. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-son Gregory E. Fletcher, and a sister Sarah Leeman. Visitation for Mr. Poole will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with Masonic Services conducted at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2016 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Edgar Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 211 and VFW Post 3601. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edgar County Humane Society.
