Charles John Becher's Obituary

Charles J. Becher, age 90, of Paris, Illinois went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana.

In keeping with Federal Mandates due to COVID-19 Pandemic, everyone is asked to be patient and abide by the state regulations. Visitors with masks will be allowed inside the church. Everyone is welcome, but we ask that you keep your visit short so that all who wish to pay their respects will be able to do so.

Visitation will be Friday November 20, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mr. Becher was born August 16, 1930 to the late Othmar and Susan (Segar) Becher, and was raised in Ferdinand, Indiana.  He was a proud Marine who served in the Korean War at the Inchon Landing for which he received the Purple Heart.  After his service to his Country he graduated from college with a civil engineering degree being licensed in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.

On June 27, 1953 he married the love of his life Carolyn L. Johnson in Tell City, Indiana.  After 65 years of marriage she preceded him in death.

He was a member of St. Mary's and St. Aloysius Catholic Churches.

Chuck retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation and just 5 years ago retired from his own land surveying company. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, was a city league coach, enjoyed fishing and all his adventures with family and friends on the Ohio River. He mostly enjoyed traveling and exploring many different countries with his wife every time he could get her on a plane.

Charles is survived by his son; Daniel (Kay Ann) Becher of Paris, Illinois, he is also survived by his four grandchildren; Jessica (Brian) Blair, Danielle Stone, C.J. (Mary Jo) Becher and Lindsey (Matt) Cavell.  There are also 15 great-grandchildren; Brianna, Caitlin, Zane, Sean, Annalee, Becher, Macstyn, Trysten, Kloie, Ella, Molly, Maggie, Maven, Grant and McKinley.  His brother Thomas Becher of Topeka, Kansas also survives.  He was preceded in death by his siblings; Cyrilla Lueken, Ruth Durlauf, Mary Ann Potter, Joe Becher and Frank Becher.
