Carolyn Louise Harmon's Obituary
Carolyn Louise Harmon, age 75 of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Paris Community Hospital. Carolyn was an elementary school teacher for 40 years and loved children. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, singing in the church choir since the age of 10. She was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Retired Teachers Association, the Edgar County Homeless Association and had formerly represented St. Mary's Church as a member of the Catholic Charities Advisory Board in Mattoon, Illinois. Carolyn loved her kids, grand kids and great grandchild, and enjoyed spending time with them. She touched numerous lives in her teaching career and was an inspiration to many. Born August 27, 1939 in Paris, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Roy F. and Margaret (Englum) Curl. She married Charles B. Harmon August 29, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Charles passed away December 31, 2005. Survivors include her children, Rev. Fr. Barry J. Harmon of Vandalia, Illinois, Meg Pena and her husband Carl of Greenwood, Indiana and Julie Benning and her husband Robert of Jeffersonville, Indiana, four grandchildren; Rebecca Benning, Kathleen Benning, Brendan Benning and Allison Pena, one great grandchild Greyson Benning, and three sisters, Rose Marie Kenney of Paris, Illinois, Patricia Roush of Paris, Illinois and Peggy Doak of Rock Island, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and six siblings; J. Edward Curl, Joan Bouslog, Joe Curl, Larry Curl, Mary Jean Magill and John Curl. Visitation for Mrs. Harmon will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with Wake Prayer services conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in St Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Barry Harmon as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
