Calvin E. Tomes, age 80 of Vermilion, passed away at 8:51 a.m. Monday, December 28 at Paris Community Hospital Emergency Room.  He was a head baker for Great Scott in Terre Haute and a member of Nevins Christian Church.  Born May 11, 1935 in Lee, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Elbert and Ollie Mae (Embry) Tomes.  He married Jean (Gann) Tomes February 28, 1957 in Marshall and she survives.  Other survivors include five children; Calvin (Rhonda) Tomes of Paris, Julie Tomes of Paris, Marty (Linda) Tomes of Terre Haute, David Tomes of Vermilion, and Daniel (Leslie) Tomes of Kansas, a sister Jewell Boswell of Carrollton, Georgia, fourteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings, including Gertie Renfrow, Grady Bratcher, Minnie Edwards, and Margie Bratcher.  Following cremation, a memorial service will be 6 p.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Levellie officiating.  Memorial visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m.Tuesday at the funeral home.
